Wal-Mart Coming To North Chatham

Wal-Mart has applied for permits to begin construction on US-Hwy 15-501, just south of the Orange County line, near the intersection with Smith Level Road. The proposed 148,400-sqft store would include a grocery, pharmacy and garden center, and create approximately 300 new jobs.

If they have all the details right, if the infrastructure and everything meets the requirements, the site would not need to be rezoned and the project would not require county commissioner approval. This 62-acre development, of which Wal-Mart will occupy 20-acres, went through the public hearing process more than 5 years ago.
